Ver-sigh

First of all - Cathy, we haven't really sampled much chocolate yet (there's always Switzerland!) but the dairy here is far superior (say in funny French accent) to in Australia. A few people wanted a picture of a baguette (Bek says we baguetted it and took it home) so here was Bek's lunch today! Note: she dropped egg on the taxi seat and had to wipe it off with her glove. We didn't get our washing done :( It was very tragic. It took us ages to find this stupid laundromat that we'd seen days ago, (note: French people do not understand the word laundry or laundromat) and when we finally found it, it was closed for some inexplicable reason. There was a small line of Canadians outside the place trying to get in. Sigh. So we had to lug our washing all the way back up our 75 stairs of our hotel (note: we have done this several times over the last few days and now have buns of steel). So we went to the post office instead. With a little language difficulty and some help from concierge and post office man, we managed to send off some excess souvenirage.

Eventually we left for our Versailles tour, with a tour guide who happened to possess the world's most annoying voice. Sounds like holding your nose, and speaking with a snooty French accent and emphasis on the last syllable of every word. It actually does - we just tried it. Sounds just like him. So that was fun. The tour started off really nicely - we saw some gorgeous buildings and a little leftover snow. We arrived at some palace thing (I think we missed the description of what it actually was, but Bek says it's the State Apartments of Versailles) which was huge. We were left to our own devices for 2 hours to explore the palace and it's gardens - which were gigantic! The rooms were filled with beautiful (and some not so beautiful) paintings and sculptures, and ornate decorations on all of the walls. It really was beautiful - everything was covered in gold leaf and was very shiny.

We got back at 6ish, and wanted Italian for dinner (note: I did give in on this yesterday too, but we couldn't actually find an Italian restaurant - of all the ones we've seen in Europe, and we couldn't find one). We couldn't find one that was open tonight, and it was very cold out, so we settled for a nice little cafe thingy with really reasonable prices. Which was quite nice - waiter spoke in English, which was very considerate of him.

Tomorrow we fly out at Sparrow's Fart for Zurich, and we have a full day tour of Zurich and Liechtenstein planned, so that will be utterly ginormous. (Note: we may not be able to blog tomorrow night, so this is one of those times when you should not assume we are dead/being mugged).
Love,
Bek and Belle
Embarrassing moment of the day: Bek walked into the men's toilet. That is all.

  1. Mum is laughing her head off about the Sparrow's Fart. Assume you mean 'early'. Did you go ice-skating when you were up the Eiffel tower?

  3. Don't tell me what to do! If I want to assume you've been mugged, I'll jolly well do it!

Not that I want to. I just want to exercise my freedom.
