In response to our fan club:
Grandma - we will be sure to smile at all the mean people we can find. ;) To be sure, to be sure.
Essie - the rooms are a little basic, but comfortable. LOVE the shower! Most decent shower we've had in 2 weeks. No push buttons!
Riana - would love a hip flask. :D And very amusing, but try to keep it G-rated, this is a family blog.
So just to catch you up on yesterday's events:
Madame Tussauds - Wax Museum
We met celebrities!!! First on the list was Johnny Depp, followed by hand-holding with George Clooney (nice for me!) and a round of applause from Jim Carey. Bek met some royalty, as well as Daniel Craig, and we stood in awe of the big man himself - Arnie. And then down to the chamber of horrors, where, in darkness and strobe lighting, we bravely battled our way through a labyrinth of screaming victims and serial killers. [Let me just interject here. When Annabelle says "bravely" what she really means is the hiding behind the people in front of us, girlish screams and Belle digging her nails into my hand. Yeah. Real brave. Okay, please continue.] Okay, so there may have been a little bit of screaming, but it was mainly so that Bek wouldn't feel so bad about being terrified. Anyway, I bravely led her out of the dungeon, where she gratefully (ok ok)... we went and found the gift shop. And didn't buy anything. We enjoyed the museum, but it was a little bit short and slightly disappointing. There was a lot of hype, and it was very commercialised, but there weren't as many wax models as we thought, and it was missing Bruce Willis (much to Bek's dismay).
The highlight of the day was going out to the theatre (oh yes, the theatre!). We went to see Flashdance at Shaftesbury theatre at West End. It was AWESOME! Granted, we had no idea what it was about beforehand, but we loved it. The music was epic, the dances were epic, the actors were epic, (and good looking, but who can tell from that distance and all that makeup) and the whole show was EPIC! We couldn't get the songs out of our heads, and Bek did this great embarrassing dance down our hotel hallway, which one of the cleaners seemed to find amusing. [Hey! It was epic!]
Yesterdays embarrassing moment: We particularly liked the male lead of Flashdance, as you may have gathered, so when he came to take his bow on stage, we got a little carried away with our cheering. The ladies seated in front of us laughed at us. :) Like I said, good looking.
We finally got a decent chat to mumsie and dadsie, which was really really good. After which we took a halfhearted double decker bus tour around the city, in sub zero temperatures. Ok, so it was 2 degrees, but that wind cuts right through 16 layers. We paid a visit to the Queen's digs, and her stables, but neither Queen nor nag were in. Buckingham Palace gates were pretty spectacular, as was HRH's golden carriage, which we saw in the Royal Mews (stables).
We got off the hop on, hop off bus tour at the harbour, where we were supposed to catch our free ferry cruise down the river. Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful. We arrived to find the ferry cancelled, due to some ridiculous tidal thing. Pshaw! [I can't believe you put that in there. What does it even mean?!] (I've always wanted to write that)
Tail between our legs, we went to the tour office to arrange a tour for tomorrow, to Stonehenge. Who goes to England without seeing Stonehenge? We do, apparently. It's cancelled. Until Boxing Day. Sad face. So tomorrow we plan to go to Westminster Abbey, and try our luck at a cruise on the Thames.
We went to the movies tonight, having nothing better to do. We saw MEGAMIND, which was pretty AWESOME! Very funny, and with some (code:) really great lines. Little in-joke there for those of you who've seen it. :D
Love,
Bek and Belle
p.s - two embarrassing moments for today!
Bek's: We went to pay our exorbitant fee at the movies, where Bek fumbled around with the money, trying to give him as many notes as possible without actually reaching the amount. [It was dark I tell you! Dark!] And then tripling it, to which I helpfully interjected, 'She's a teacher'. Bek wasn't amused.
And then mine: We were in desperate need for some Ben and Jerry's ice cream (thanks Riana for getting us addicted) out of the vending machine at our hotel. Such a good idea, come on Australia, catch up! They come in these cute little tubs, with so many different flavours. Anyway, they cost 2.50 pounds, and all I had in my wallet was a 20 pound note. So there we were, shovelling handfulls of one pound coins into the tiny little zipper pocket in my wallet. Bek wasn't amused.
It's ok, I didn't get to Stonehenge either.
ReplyDelete... I didn't get to see the Louvre in Paris either for that matter. How un-touristy am I?!
Ben and Jerry's cookie dough is hands down the best. We should start a petition!
Hi guys,
ReplyDeleteWhat's with epic? Is that the new IN word. Look it up in the dictionary!
Fancy paying $A7.50 for an icecream! I hope it was worth it. Have a Happy Christmas wherever you are.
much love and God bless. Grandma
